Shake 'Em Loose! (36w2d)

Last night was not a great night for sleeping.

To put it in positive terms-- I had a lot of Braxton Hicks contractions going on, in retrospect (at 2am it registered more as "Ugh, I tried to roll over and my belly feels all tight and uncomfortable now") which kept waking me, and while getting up to pee is nothing new, I actually found myself getting out of bed to pee just because I needed a change of scenery and position.

At one point I woke up and it was still dark, and I remember thinking, "Jeez, how can it STILL be the middle of the night? Why is time passing so slowly?!"

I definitely took it easy this morning-- aka, I did nothing but lounge on the couch watching TV until about noon-- but otherwise, I don't feel any more tired than normal. That's either evidence of my resilience after a night like last night, or a disturbing commentary on how tired I've gotten used to being from months of not sleeping well... not sure which. I'm hoping it's the first, though; that'll serve me better after the girls are born and I learn what real sleeplessness is.

Husband and I ran some errands today which resulted in me doing a lot of walking around, first at Bed Bath & Beyond and then at Whole Foods. I was pretty tired and Braxton-Hicks-y by the time we got home, and for the first time I had "four or more" BH's in an hour, but then I got up to get food and pee and they went away. That combined with last night has me feeling hopeful that at least something is happening. At any rate, Operation "Shake The Babies Out With Much Walking" did not ultimately yield any positive results.

One thing I'm very ready to soon be done with is testing my blood sugar. It's not really so bad, all told, but I go through the supplies so damn fast it's incredible. Makes sense, since I have to test four times a day, but man... real diabetics must spend their lives at the pharmacy. And speaking of pharmacies, here's the adventure that Husband and I had trying to get refills. (Read it slowly, it's confusing...)

Husband: I have an eye doctor's appointment at "Office A" down the street from us.
Julie: Oh, perfect! I need some refills. I'll call the pharmacy at my doctor's office ("Office B," 30 min away) and have them transfer the prescription to the Office A location.
Julie, calling Office B pharmacy: Transfer these two prescriptions for test strips and lancets to Office A, please!
Office B pharmacy: Oops, you don't have any refills.
Julie: Okay, I'll call Office B and have them give me refills.
Office B: You have refills! Several, in fact.
Julie: Hmm, okay... let me call the pharmacy back.
Office B pharmacy: Nope, no refills. Weird, since you didn't transfer the prescriptions anywhere else because I just checked that.
Julie: Hmm, that doesn't make any sense...
Office B: OH... you transferred your refills to CVS Down The Street From You. (sounding annoyed now)
Julie: (ignoring the fact that they just said that wasn't what happened) Oh, okay, sorry, I'll call them.
Julie, calling CVS: Hey, I need these two prescriptions and hey! also, I need more folic acid, now that I think about it, and you have that one too.
CVS: Hmm, you don't have any refills on any of these three prescriptions. We'll call Office B and have them refill everything.
Julie: Okay, let me also call them because they're going to tell you they don't to refill anything, so I'll just confirm with them that I do and it's just a glitch in the computer system or something.
Julie, calling Office B: Just so you know, CVS is going to call and etc etc etc.
Office B: Okay, we'll get that all straightened out for you.
Office B, calling back later: Did you hear from CVS? They said they can get you the folic acid and test strips but not the lancets.
Julie: Hmm, okay, weird... I kinda need all of those things, and we're actually driving to the pharmacy right now (true).
Office B: Okay, I'll put that last prescription through to the nurses quickly and see if we can't get that one straightened out for you.
CVS ten minutes later-- Husband goes in to pick up prescriptions and comes back out to the car: They had the lancets and strips ready but not the folic acid.
Julie: *headdesk*

This was over the course of two full days, so I went a day without checking my blood sugar. Partly my fault for not refilling quickly enough, although like I said, it sneaks up on your quickly because you have to use so many lancets and test strips a day. Craziness.

Additonally, let it be stated: Office B is my OB/GYN office, and they are generally awesome and I love them, and I don't consider any of this to be their fault... it was more of a giant cluster involving more than one office/pharmacy and everyone for some reason not having the same information.

Ultimately, the whole thing is just funny to me. Re-reading this, I can almost hear Benny Hill music in the background.

For some reason blogging is taking me forever tonight... I've been typing this for almost an hour! I think I'm stalling because a) I'm tired, and when it's bedtime I'm like a stubborn four-year-old, b) I have to take a shower (I do every night, because it seems people always go into labor at 3am and I want to be as recently clean as possible before having a c-section and not being able to shower for a while), and c) I just want to delay the possibility of having another night like last night.

Then again... we bought a new warm blanket today which now lives in the layer of our bed between the sheet and the comforter, and I'm eager to try it out. I may be a perpetual furnace even when not pregnant, but my poor Husband woke up quite chilly this morning because I've decided that saving money on heating oil by keeping our house at 60 degrees is absolutely imperative, so we splurged on a nice $50 polar fleece blanket. (Sidenote: I love my giant stash of BB&B 20% off coupons.) So I should probably head upstairs, clean myself preemptively, and then see if the new blanket has any magic powers that help me sleep better.

Goodnight, all. :)

ETA: CRAP, just realized I have to get up early for a doctor's appointment, gaaaahahhhh it is 1am.
