FULL TERM WITH TWINS. I am surprise, internet.
Despite spending the last 3 weeks since the doctor thumbs-up for delivery desperately wanting to evict the girls (as the blogger I linked to in my last post said, "Twin pregnancy is not for the faint of heart"), I'm really glad we made it this far. I know a lot of it is a product of me being able to stay home and not be bustling around at work every day, and I'm grateful for that opportunity-- and for my husband, who drives me everywhere and has taken on the bulk of household chores, as well as my mom, who picks me up and "babysits" me a good three days a week so the dog and I aren't left home alone all day.
8 days! Our scheduled c-section is next Tuesday. I have another doctor's appointment on Thursday, then a pre-op blood test something-or-other at the hospital on Monday morning, and then... that's it. If we make it that far, Sunday evening will see myself and husband at a friends' house for the poker final tournament-- he's been playing in a league with friends all year, and of course the final game ended up being scheduled right smack in the middle of baby time, and he's going to be piiiiiissed if he has to miss it (not at me, mind you, just at circumstances because the game couldn't be moved) because he made the top 8 and the final table, and this is the exciting part that everyone looks forwards to since, well, I think February or so. But hey, things happen.
In other news, I have to call the nutritionist today because my blood sugar has been spiking :( Two nights ago, we ordered out from a chicken wings place and I had a few, then fell asleep and missed my one-hour reading. I woke up just in time for a two-hour reading, and it came in at 156. At ONE hour it should be under 140; at TWO hours, under 120! I blamed the coating and sauces for being too sugary (it seems like sugar affects me more than other carbs, so even if I stay within my carb limit, if it's a lot of sugar it spikes more... which I guess makes sense). At three hours it was 124-- still above where it should have been an hour earlier. It finally went down to the 90's at four hours.
Last night, similar issue-- after dinner it was still above 140 at two hours post-meal. And just now, this morning, I had a well-measured bowl of cereal (which I'm allowed to have-- 30g carbs for the cereal and 12g carbs for the cup of milk is just under my 45g carb breakfast allowance) and my blood sugar just tested at 178. Sigh.
I don't want to call the endocrinologist because I'm annoyed with her now, after my exchange with her office last week, so I'll call the nutritionist and see what she says, and maybe my OB's office, too. My doctor had said one of the things that would cause a change in the schedule for our c-section date is a "change in your other medical conditions" (i.e., blood sugar issues or protein/BP issues), and I don't know if this would count or what, so I want them to know what's going on. And in the meantime, I'm going to pack some measured-out snacks to take to my parents' house today (Husband just left for school and will be there until 9:05pm tonight) and test like crazy to stay on top of it. I don't want the girls to end up getting sugar water in the NICU because they have blood sugar issues :(
I know it's worrisome (I had plenty of freakouts wrt my GDM), but 178 still isn't that high. Try having more protein and fat to minimize your spiking - if you have cereal and milk, there's very little protein in that. I had to give up on cereal/oatmeal completely by the end and eat a scrambled egg and a piece of toast and some milk.
ReplyDelete<3 Congrats, mama. :)
